What is the difference between hydrolysis and hydration?

    Answer:

Water has two ions, \[{{H}^{+}}\] and\[O{{H}^{-}}\]. The interaction of these ions with anion and cation of the salt to give the original acid and the base is termed hydrolysis. \[\underset{Salt}{\mathop{AlC{{l}_{3}}}}\,+3HOH\to \underset{Base}{\mathop{Al{{(OH)}_{3}}}}\,+\underset{Acid}{\mathop{3HCl}}\,\] Addition of water as such to ions or molecules is termed hydration. \[KCl+{{H}_{2}}O\to {{K}^{+}}(aq)+C{{l}^{-}}(aq)\] \[CuS{{O}_{2}}+5{{H}_{2}}O\to CuS{{O}_{4}}.5{{H}_{2}}O\]
