  • question_answer 1)
Describe the method, which can be used to separate two compounds with different solubilities in a solvent S.

    Answer:

Fractional crystallisation is used for the separation of mixture of two compounds which are soluble in the same solvent but their solubilities are different. It involves the preparation of saturated solution of the mixture in a suitable solvent at higher temperature. The clear solution is now cooled, the less soluble component will crystallise first and can be separated. The remaining component in the solution can also be crystallised on evaporation end cooling of the remaining solution.
