  • question_answer 1)
Following table shows the number of bicycles manufactured in a factory during the years 1998 to 2002. Illustrate this data using a bar graph. Choose a scale of your choice.
    Years Number of bicycles manufactured
    1998 800
    1999 600
    2000 900
    2001 1100
    2002 1200
    (a) In which year were the maximum number of bicycles manufactured? (b) In which year were the minimum number of bicycles manufactured?

    Answer:

To draw a bar graph, we will use the following steps. (i) Firstly, draw two perpendicular lines, one is horizontal and one is vertical. Along the horizontal line, mark 'years' and along the vertical line mark 'number of books sold'. (ii) Now, take scale of 1 unit length = 100 bicycles along the vertical line and then mark the corresponding values. Also, the heights of the bars for various days are as follows:
    1998 \[\frac{800}{100}=4\text{units}\]
    1999 \[\frac{600}{100}=6\text{units}\]
    2000 \[\frac{900}{100}=9\text{units}\]
    2001 \[\frac{1100}{100}=11\text{units}\]
    2002 \[\frac{1200}{100}=12\text{units}\]
(iii) Draw bars of equal width and of height calculated in Step (ii) on the horizontal line with uniform gap between them. Thus we get the following bar graph. (a) The maximum number of bicycles were manufactured in the bar is largest for 2002). (b) The minimum number of bicycles were manufactured in the year 1999 (because the bar is smallest for 1999).
