In a colony there is a barren land. Children use it regularly for playing football, jogging, badminton and other recreational activities. The government decides to build shops in the given space. (a) What would you  say are the development goals of the government? (b) In what way are these goals contradictory to those of the children?

    Answer:

       (a) The government wants to develop the area by providing shops for the local people, earn rent from the traders who set up their shops in the barren land and also taxes from the goods that the traders sell. (b) These goals are contradictory to the goals of the children, as the children have lost their entertainment and exercise space due to the barren land being occupied. Instead, if the government had developed the barren land as a park for the children to play in, their goal would have matched the goal of the children.
