Distinguish between conventional sources of energy and non-conventional sources of energy. Explain four points of difference.

    Answer:

Conventional sources of energy are carbon based energy sources like petroleum, coal and natural gas, which take millions of years in formation, thus being non-renewable. Non-conventional sources of energy have been developed recently and are based on natural phenomena like wind, water, solar energy, tidal waves, geothermal energy and biogas. Their differences are given in the table below
    Conventional Sources Non-conventional Sources
Costly (except for coal) and prices still rising. Free or relatively low cost.
Their use causes environmental pollution problems. These are pollution free.
They will last for a definite time only and will get exhausted with continuous use. They are freely available and thus are renewable.
These have been available from a long time. These have been developed in the last few years only.
