             List out some of the merits and demerits of democracy.

    Answer:

                      Democracy is considered to be the best form to government. The merits of democracy are (i) It safeguards the social, economic and political interests of the individuals. (ii) It assures   equality in all social, political and . economic rights of the citizens. (iii) The elected representatives form a stable government because it is based on public support. The demerits of democracy are (i) Majority party holds the reign of government, so democracy gives more importance to quantity rather than quality. (ii) Voters do not cast their vote in a spirit of duty as democracy requires them to do. (iii) Coalition government is not a stable or fixed form of government, there is always uncertainty  regarding its function.
