Explain any four ways in which democracies have been able to reduce inequality and poverty.

    Answer:

A democratic form of government is considered better than dictatorship for the following reasons (i) In a democracy, there are regular, free and fair elections, which is not present in dictatorship. (ii) In a democracy there is open debates on major policy decisions. In dictatorship this is not possible. In dictatorship, the ruler or the ruling party can only take the ultimate decision. (iii) A democracy is always attentive to the needs of the people. Here citizen has the right to information about the government and its functioning. But in dictatorship citizen does not have this right. (iv) Democratic governments have the popular support of the voters, hence they are legitimate governments. In dictatorship, head of the state rule the country according to his own law. (v) Women and weaker sections of the society have better status in a democracy than dictatorship. A democratic government is people's own government, so there is an overwhelming support for the idea of democracy all over the world.
