       What  were  the   reasons   for   launching multi-purpose river projects in India after independence?

                  After independence, India initiated planned development of economic activities through the Five Year Plans, to improve the standard of living of the people. The reason was that these projects would integrate development of agriculture and the village economy with rapid industrialisation and growth of the urban economy.
