The bond angles in \[NH_{4}^{+}\]  and \[C{{H}_{4}}\] are same but \[N{{H}_{3}}\] has different bond angle. Why?

    Answer:

In\[NH_{4}^{+}\] ion as well as in \[C{{H}_{4}}\], the central atom has four shared pair of electrons. Therefore, both of them have almost the same bond angle (109°28'). But in\[N{{H}_{3}}\]  molecule, due to the presence of three shared pairs and one lone pair, the geometry gets slightly distorted. As a result, the bond angle is \[107{}^\circ .\]
