How is potential of an electrode determined?

    Answer:

Potential of an electrode is determined by using SHE. In order to find out standard electrode potential of Zn electrode, Zn electrode containing 1 M concentration of Zn2+ ions is connected to SHE. The electron flow is found to be from zinc electrode to SHE. It shows that Zn acts as anode while SHE acts as cathode.     Then by using:    E°cell = E°Cathode — E°Anode
