In a fly wheel, most of the mass is concentrated at the rim? Explain why?

    Answer:

Concentration of the mass at the rim increases moment of inertia (I) of the flywheel. If such a wheel gains or loses some K.E. of rotation, \[\left( \frac{1}{2}I{{\omega }^{2}} \right)\], it brings about a relatively smaller change in its angular speed \[\omega \], (\[\because \] I is large). Hence such a flywheel helps in maintaining uniform rotation.
