In a first order reaction, the units of the rate constant do not depend upon the concentration of the reactants. Justify.

    Answer:

Rate equation for the first order reaction is \[k=\frac{2.303}{t}\log \,\frac{{}}{\,\,\,\,\,\,-a}\] Here a is the initial concentration of reactants and \[(a-x)\] is concentration after time t. Since the units of a and\[(a-x)\]are to cancel out, therefore, units of rate constant (k) do not depend upon the concentration of the reactants.
