      What is d-d transition?

    Answer:

      (i) Anhydrous  has no ligand. So, crystal, field splitting doesn't occur so, it doesn't show any colour but in hydrated form it is linked with () ligand so, it shows colour due to d-d transition. (ii) is a complex compound. In presence of  molecules the d-orbitals of  undergo splitting. The compound is coloured (violet) due to d-d transition. On heating water molecules escape, d-orbitals become degenerate. There is no d-d transition. Hence compound becomes colourless.
