Alkyl halides are more reactive than alkanes towards nucleophilic substitution reaction. Why?

    Answer:

Due to large electro negativity difference between C and X; electrons shift towards halogen and X acquires a partial negative charge. While carbon acquires a partial positive charge. Thus a nucleophile can easily attack the electron deficient carbon.
