The boiling point of alkyl halides are higher than those, the hydrocarbons of comparable molecular mass. Explain.

    Answer:

Molecules of organic halogen compounds are generally polar. Due to greater polarity as well as higher molecular mass as compared to parent hydrocarbon, the intermolecular forces of attraction (dipole-dipole interaction and van der Waals force) are stronger and have higher boiling point than hydrocarbons of comparable molecular masses.
