Why partial roasting of sulphide ore is done in the metallurgy of copper?

    Answer:

Partial roasting of sulphide ore is carried in order to convert it to the oxide form. The oxide form then reduces the remaining sulphide ore to the metallic form. This is called auto reduction. \[2CuS+3{{O}_{2}}\xrightarrow{\,}\,2CuO+2S{{O}_{2}}\] \[2CuO+CuS\xrightarrow{\,}\,3Cu+S{{O}_{2}}\]
