Why are the following names incorrect? (a) Methylaniline (b) Propanediamine

    Answer:

                    (a) The name is not complete. If the methyl group \[(C{{H}_{3}})\] has replaced one hydrogen atom of the amino \[(N{{H}_{2}})\] group, the name of the compound should be N-Methylaniline. (b) The name propanediamine does not indicate the positions of the amino groups in the compound. In case these are attached at the terminal positions, the IUPAC name of the compound should be Propane-1, 3-diamine. In case these are present at the adjacent positions, the name must be propane-1, 2-diamine.
