In gaseous phase basicity order is whereas in aqueous solution  Why?

    Answer:

In gaseous phase there is no hydrogen bonding so, only inductive effect decides basic strength. Since, in 3° amine there are three electron releasing groups. So, 3° amine is most basic and then 2° and 1°. But in aqueous solution basic strength is governed by H-bonding also. The more H-bond is formed by an amine the more it is basic. These two effect are opposite to each other. Thus in aqueous solution order of basicity 2° > 3° > 1°.
