\[N{{F}_{3}}\]is not hydrolysed while \[NC{{l}_{3}}\] can be readily hydrolysed. Explain.

    Answer:

Both nitrogen and fluorine atoms do not have any vacant d-orbitals to accept electron pairs from the oxygen atom in\[{{H}_{2}}O\] molecule. Therefore, NFs cannot be hydrolysed. However, \[NC{{l}_{3}}\] has vacant d-orbitals on chlorine atoms which can take up electron pairs from \[{{H}_{2}}O\]molecules. Therefore, \[NC{{l}_{3}}\] can be hydrolysed. \[NC{{l}_{3}}+3{{H}_{2}}O\xrightarrow{\,}\,N{{H}_{3}}+3HClO\]
