    A) If both the assertion and the reason are true and the reason is a correct explanation of the assertion

    B) If both the assertion and reason are true but the reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion

    C) If the assertion is true but the reason is false

    D) If both the assertion and reason are false

    E) If the assertion is false but reason is true

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

When the microspores reach maturity, the male cone elongates considerably and rapidly. The scales separate from one another so that sporangia are exposed. The sporangia lose water and with the loss of water from its cells the exothecium shrinks. The sporangia thus open by a slit on its outer face. The spores fall out. The liberated spores are dispersed by wind.
