Why a sinking ship often turns over as it becomes immersed in water ?

    Answer:

When the ship is floating, the meta-centre of the ship is above the centre of gravity. While sinking, the ship takes in water. As a result, the centre of gravity is raised above the meta-centre. The ship turns over due to the couple formed by the weight and the buoyant force.
