In the diagram a graph between the inter- molecular force F acting between the molecules of a solid and the distance r between them is shown. Explain the graph.

                (i) As the intermolecular distance r decreases, the force of attraction between the molecules increases. (ii) When the distance decreases to \[{{r}_{1}},\] the force of attraction is maximum. (iii) As the distance further decreases, the attractive force goes on decreasing and when the distance decreases to\[{{r}_{0}}\], the force becomes zero. When the distance decreases below \[{{r}_{0}}\], the molecules begin to repel and the repulsive force increases rapidly.
