Three squares have perimeters of 12 m, 20 m and 24 m respectively. If a rectangle is constructed whose area is equal to the combined area of the three squares such that its width is 7 m, then the length of the rectangle is

    A)  6m

    B)  8m

    C)  10 m

    D)         12m

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Perimeter of three squares are respectively \[12m,\text{ }20m,\]and 24m. \[\therefore \] Sides of three squares are respectively 3m, 5m and 6m. Combined area of three squares                 \[={{3}^{2}}+{{5}^{2}}+{{6}^{2}}\]                 \[=9+25+36=70\text{ }sq\text{ }m\] If length of the rectangle is x m, then                 \[x\times 7=70\] or            \[x=10\,m\]
