JEE Main & Advanced Mathematics Sequence & Series Question Bank nth term of special series, Sum to n terms and Infinite number of terms

  • question_answer
The sum to infinity of the following series \[\frac{1}{1.2}+\frac{1}{2.3}+\frac{1}{3.4}+...........\] shall be [MNR 1982]

    A) \[\infty \]

    B) 1

    C) 0

    D) None of these

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Given series \[\frac{1}{1\,.\,2}+\frac{1}{2\,.\,3}+\frac{1}{3\,.\,4}+...=\left( 1-\frac{1}{2} \right)+\left( \frac{1}{2}-\frac{1}{3} \right)+\left( \frac{1}{3}-\frac{1}{4} \right)+....\] Obviously the sum of series upto infinity is 1.
