    A mobile phone lies along the principal axis of a concave mirror, as shown in Fig. Show by suitable diagram the formation of its image. Explain why the magnification is not uniform, and distortion will occur depending on the location of the mobile with respect to the mirror.                      

    Answer:

                    The formation of the image of the cell phone is shown in Fig. The part which is at C will be imaged at C and will be of the same size, i.e., \[B'C=BC\]. The other end A of the mobile phone is highly magnified by the concave mirror. Thus the different parts of the mobile phone are magnified in different proportions because of their different locations from the concave mirror. That is why the image is distorted.
