Why does a semiconductor get damaged when a heavy current flows through it?

    Answer:

When a heavy current flows, the semi- conductor gets heated up. Many covalent bonds break liberating a large number of free electrons. The semi- conductor loses its property of controlled conduction. It becomes an ordinary conductor.
