  • question_answer
A straight line makes an angle of \[{{135}^{o}}\] with x-axis and cuts y-axis at a distance of -5 from the origin. The equation of the line is [Pb. CET 2001]

    A) \[2x+y+5=0\]

    B) \[x+2y+3=0\]

    C) \[x+y+5=0\]

    D) \[x+y+3=0\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let the equation of line is \[y=mx+c\]            Given line makes an angle of \[135{}^\circ \] with x-axis            So, \[m=\tan \theta =\tan 135{}^\circ =-1\]and cuts the intercepts        -5 from origin to y-axis i.e.,  \[c=-5\]            Hence, equation of line is\[y=-x-5\Rightarrow x+y+5=0\].
