      How is sodium hydroxide prepared? Give its uses.

    Answer:

      Sodium hydroxide is formed by electrolysis of saturated brine solution (NaCI). This process is called chlor-alkali process due to the formation of products-chlorine and sodium hydroxide. When   electricity   is   passed   through concentrated solution of brine, it decomposes to give the following products. is produced at anode, H2 is produced at cathode and NaoH solution is formed near the cathode which are collected and stored separately.                                                                                                                               (2) Uses of sodium hydroxide (i) In soap, paper, textile, petroleum and silk industry. (ii) As a reagent in laboratory. (iii) In manufacture of fats and oils.                                                                                                                                          (2)
