    Solution :

: Rh incompatibility arises when an Rh- negative mother carries an Rh-positive foetus. When anti-Rh agglutinins cross the placenta to an Rh-positive foetus, they can cause haemolysis and various forms ofhaemolytic disease of the newborn (erythroblastosis foetalis). This is the condition which is responsible for the death of the foetus. The Rh system is the most important blood group system, discovered by Landsteiner and Weiner in 1940. The letter Rh are used since this factor was studied in the rhesus monkey. This system is composed primarily of the C, D and E antigens, although it actually contains many more.
