Which of the following minerals needed for the activity of enzymes required for the synthesis of oligosaccharides and glycoproteins?

    A) \[Mn\]

    B) \[Mg\]

    C) \[Cu\]

    D) \[Mo\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

: Manganese is cofactor of many enzymes hydrolase like, decarboxylase and transferase enzymes, glycoprotein and proteoglycan synthesis, mitochondrial superoxide dismutase. Manganese ions helps the enzymes that catalyzes the synthesis of oligosaccharides and glycoproteins. Magnesium acts as cofactor for enzyme kinase. Copper is a constituent of oxidase enzyme, e.g., cytochrome oxidase. Molybdenum is a cofactor of enzyme nifrogenase nitrate reductase which catalyses fixation of nitrogen.
