Glucagon is not normally found in the

    A)  pancreas

    B)  gastro intestinal tract

    C)  adrenal

    D)  all of these.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

: Glucagon and insulin hormones manage metabolism and blood levels of glucose, fatty acids, triglycerides and amino acids. Glucagon is produced by the pancreas, brain and the upper gastrointestinal tract [A cell (present in upper one third of the gastric mucosa) and L cells (present in the small intestine and colon)]. The alpha cells of the pancreatic islets is the source of pancreatic glucagon. Intestinal glucagon (glicentin) is built up from 69 amino acids. The glucagon from the\[\alpha -\] cells of the pancreatic islets only contains 29 of the 160 amino acid residues in pro-glucagon. Pancreatic and intestinal (glicentin) glucagon are hepatic insulin-antagonist. Glucagon is glycogenolytic, gluconeogenic, lipolytic and ketogenic.
