A drug called colchicine is shown to interfere specially with spindle microtubule formation during mitosis. This would result to

    A)  dehydration of chromosomes

    B)  despiralization of chromosomes

    C)  arrest of chromosomes movements

    D)  arrest of centrioles movements.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

: Colchicine is an alkaloid derived from the autumn crocus Colchicum, a member of the liliaceae. Colchicine is a mitotic poison, inhibiting aggregation of microtubules to form the mitotic spindle. It is widely used to yield a large number of cells in mitosis by mitotic arrest (since the cells can not progress beyond metaphase) and has also been used to produce polyploid varieties in horticulture.
