Which one of the following is not dependent on the intensity of incident photon in a photoelectric experiment?

    A)  Work function of the surface

    B)  Number of photoelectrons

    C)  Stopping potential

    D)  Amount of photoelectric current

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

The minimum energy required for the emission of photoelectron from a metal is called the work function of that metal. It depends on the intensity of incident photon. While stopping potential is the negative potential at which the photoelectric current becomes zero is called stopping potential. Since, at the stopping potential the photoelectric current cannot be obtained by increasing the intensity of the incident light. It is clear that stopping potential or maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectron does not depend upon the intensity of the incident light.
