  • question_answer
The number of values of \[x\] in the interval \[[0,2\pi ],\]where  the  function\[f(x)=\cos x\]\[+\,\cos \sqrt{2x}\] attains its maximum, is:

    A)  0

    B)         1

    C)         2

    D)         infinite

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    We know that \[(\cos \sqrt{2}x)\] has period \[\frac{2\pi }{\sqrt{2}}=\sqrt{2}\pi \] and \[\cos x\]has period \[2\pi .\] At\[x=0\] both have maximum value. \[\therefore \]Only one value of \[x\] attains its maximum
