Haemophilia (sickle cell anaemia) is a:

    A)  deficiency disorder

    B)  male sex disorder

    C)  female sex disorder

    D)  autosomal sex disorder

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Haemophilia is a recessive sex-linked disease. The gene of haemophilia is located on X-chromosome. In a person suffering from haemophilia blood clotting may take half an hour to twenty four hours due to lack of thromboplastin protein in blood plasma. The male is always haemophilic but the female may be carrier or haemophilic. Sickle cell anaemia is a biochemical disorder, inherited as recessive trait. In normal haemoglobin a dominant gene codes for glutamic acid monomer at sixth position in beta chain. The recessive allele of this gene codes for the insertion of amino acid valine in place of glutamic acid at the sixth position of beta chain.
