Gonads in Hydra develops from :

    A)  epithelio muscular cell

    B)  interstitial cells

    C)  archeocyte cells

    D)  singing cells

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Gonads in Hydra develop temporarily from interstitial cells of epidermis, which accumulate to form bulges in the body wall. In some species male and female gonads occur in the same individual which is then known as hermaphrodite or monoecious. Usually testes develop towards the distal end and ovaries towards the basal end of body. In hermaphrodite species self-fertilization is avoided because testes mature earlier than ovaries (protandrous condition).
