    Significance of Krebs cycle:

    A)  synthesis of ATP by oxidative phosphorylation

    B)  synthesis of amino acids

    C)  synthesis of vitamins

    D)  activates photosynthesis

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Krebs cycle takes place in mitochondria. During oxidative phosphorylation ATP are formed from the \[NAD{{H}_{2}}\] and \[FAD{{H}_{2}}\] formed in Krebs cycle. One NADH provides 3 ATP molecule whereas one \[FAD{{H}_{2}}\] gives 2ATP molecules i.e., 24ATP molecules are formed during two Krebs cycle of two acetyl Co-A, formed from glucose (actually from 2 pyruvic acid molecules). Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplast of plant cell. This process is driven by light (solar energy), which transforms to chemical energy. Vitamins are naturally occuring organic substances, which are required in minute amount to-maintain normal health. They are accessory food substances.
