Which hormone is responsible for ovulation?

    A)  FSH

    B)  LH

    C)  Testosterone

    D)  Oestrogen

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Ovulation in a woman, who has a normal 28-day female sexual cycle occurs 14 days after the onset of menstruation. LH is necessary for final follicular growth and ovulation. About 2 days before ovulation the rate 6f LH secretion increases 6-10 folds. FSH also increases 2-3 folds at the same time. This LH causes rapid secretion of progesterone, which cause follicle rupture with discharge of the ovum. FSH also causes growth of follicles in the ovary and sperm maturation in Sertoli cells of testes. Testosterone promotes development of male reproductive system and male secondary sexual characteristics. Oestrogen promotes growth and development of female reproductive system and female secondary sexual characteristics.
