Conjoint, collateral and closed vascular bundle is found in:

    A)  monocot stem

    B)  monocot root

    C)  dicot stem

    D)  dicot root

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The vascular tissue comprises xylem and phloem. On the basis of their relative position vascular bundles are of two types: [a] Radial: The xylem and phloem groups are located on different radii e.g.. Root. [b] Conjoint: When xylem and phloemgroups are located on the same radius. These are of three types: (i) Collateral: The xylem lies inwards and phloem outwards. In dicotyledonous stem the cambium is found to be present in between xylem and phloem such bundles are called open type. In monocotyledonous stem the cambium is absent and such bundles are called closed type. (ii) Bicollateral: The phloem is found to be present on both sides of xylem. Simul- taneously two cambium strips also occur. Such bundles are commonly found in members of Cucurbitaceae. (iii) Concentric: Here one element encircles the other. They may be amphivasal or amphicribral.
