If the radius of earth is reduced by 2% keeping its mass constant. Then the weight of the body on its surface will:

    A)  increases

    B)  decreases

    C)  remain same

    D)  either  or

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The radius of earth is reduced by \[=2%\](given) the weight of body or gravitational force\[g=\frac{GM}{R_{e}^{2}}=\propto \frac{1}{R_{e}^{2}}\](where\[{{R}_{e}}\]is the radius of the earth) Hence, if the radius of the earth is reduced then the value of g will be increased so that the weight of body will increase.
