  • question_answer
For a reaction of the type \[A+B\to \] products, it is observed that doubling the concentration of A causes the reaction rate to be four times as great, but doubling the amount of B does not affect the rate. The rate equation is

    A)  \[Rate=k[A][B]\]

    B)  \[Rate=k{{[A]}^{2}}\]

    C)  \[Rate=k{{[A]}^{2}}[B]\]

    D)  \[Rate=k{{[A]}^{2}}{{[B]}^{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

On doubling the concentration of A causes the reaction rate to be four times as great so order with respect to reactant A is 2. While double the amount of B doesn't affects the rate so the order with respect to reactant B is zero. \[\therefore \] Rate of reaction \[=k{{[A]}^{2}}\]
