In which of the following animals, respiration occurs without any respiratory organ ?

    A)  Prog

    B)  Fish

    C)  Cockroach

    D)  Earthworm

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Earthworm respires, but has no respiratory organs. The exchange of gases takes place through moist skin, ie, cutaneous respiration. Since, the absorptive surface of earthworm is more than its volume, so earthworm does not require any respiratory organ. Frog has three modes of respiration. (i)Cutaneous respiration, ie, moist skin all over the body surface. It takes place always in frog majority during hibernation. (ii) Buccopharyngeal respiration. (iii) Pulmonary respiration which is not very efficient, comparing to mammal. Fish is the complex aquatic animal respires with the aid of gills.. Gills are specialized.
