In Young's double slit experiment, when wavelength used is \[6000\,\overset{\text{o}}{\mathop{\text{A}}}\,\] and the screen is 40 cm from the slits, the fringes are 0.012 cm apart. What is the distance between the slits?

    A)  0.024cm

    B)  2.4cm

    C)  0.24cm

    D)  0.2cm

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Fringe width \[\beta =\frac{\lambda D}{d}\]where, D = distance between screen and slits, d = separation of slits \[d=\frac{\lambda D}{\beta }=\frac{6000\times {{10}^{-8}}\times 40}{0.012}=0.2cm\]
