    \[C{{H}_{3}}C{{H}_{2}}\xrightarrow[Step\,I]{C{{l}_{2}}}C{{H}_{3}}CHO\] The above reaction is an example of oxidation. Due to oxidation, \[-C{{H}_{2}}OH\] group is oxidised to \[-CHO\]group.                 \[C{{H}_{3}}CHO\xrightarrow[Step\,II]{3C{{l}_{2}}}C{{l}_{3}}.C.CHO\] In the second step, chlorination takes place. In chlorination, hydrogen atom changes by chlorine.
