The monomer unit of amylopectin is

    A)  amylose

    B)  \[\alpha \text{-}D\text{-}\]glucose

    C)  \[\alpha \text{-}L\text{-}\]glucose

    D)  lactose

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Amylopectin is branched chain polymer of \[\alpha \]-D-glucose units, involving about 1000 or more units per molecule. It is insoluble in water. In amylopectin, chain is formed by \[{{C}_{1}}\] and \[{{C}_{2}}\] glycosidic linkage whereas branching occurs by \[{{C}_{1}}\] and \[{{C}_{6}}\] glycosidic linkage. (Structure of glycogen is similar to amylopectin and it is also highly branched).
