By passing 1 A current through dilute solution of sulphuric acid for some time 1g of oxygen is liberated. How much hydrogen is liberated during this period?

    A)  0.17 g

    B)  0.21

    C)  1 g

    D)  0.7 g

    E)  0.12 g

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

The relative atomic mass of oxygen =16 while its valency =2. So that the chemical equivalent \[E=\frac{16}{2}=8\] Chemical equivalent of hydrogen = 1 \[\frac{{{M}_{oxygen}}}{{{M}_{hydrogen}}}=\frac{{{E}_{oxygen}}}{{{E}_{hydrogen}}}=\frac{8}{1}\] \[\therefore \]  \[{{M}_{hydrogen}}=\frac{{{M}_{oxygen}}}{8}=0.125\,g\]
