The molecule which has T-shaped structure is:

    A)  \[PC{{l}_{3}}\]

    B)  \[Cl{{F}_{3}}\]

    C)  \[Cl{{F}_{3}}\]

    D)  \[BC{{l}_{3}}\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

\[Cl{{F}_{3}}\] has \[s{{p}^{3}}d\] hybridization. Out of five\[s{{p}^{3}}d\] hybrid orbitals two are completely filled by \[lp\] and three are half filled which overlap with three \[2{{p}_{z}}\]half filled orbitals of three F-atoms. Due to the presence of two Ips its geometry is bent T-shaphed. \[_{\bullet }^{\bullet }\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  | \\  F \end{smallmatrix}}{\overset{\begin{smallmatrix}  F \\  | \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{Cl}}}\,-F\]
