The force required to just move a body up an inclined plane is double the force required to just prevent it from sliding down. If \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\] is the angle of friction and \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\] is the angle which the plane makes with the horizontal, then :

    A)  tan \[\phi \] = 2tan \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    B)  tan \[\phi \] = 3tan \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    C)  tan \[\phi \] = tan \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    D)  tan \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\] = 3tan \[\phi \]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                    Here,  \[mg(\sin \phi +\mu \,cos\phi )\] \[=2mg(\sin \phi -\mu \cos \phi )\]                 \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\tan \phi =3\mu \]                 As           \[\mu =\tan \theta \]                 So,          \[\tan \phi =3tan\theta \]
