  • question_answer
The dip at a place is \[\delta \]. For measuring it, the axis of the dip needle is perpendicular to the magnetic meridian. If the axis of the dip needle makes an angle \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\] with the magnetic meridian, the apparent dip will be given by :

    A)  tan \[\delta \] cosec \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    B)  tan \[\delta \] sin \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    C)  tan \[\delta \] cos \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    D)  tan \[\delta \] sec \[\text{ }\!\!\theta\!\!\text{ }\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

                    We know \[\tan \delta =\frac{V}{H}\] and \[\tan {{\delta }_{1}}=\frac{V}{H\cos ({{90}^{o}}-\theta )}\] \[=\frac{\tan \delta }{\cos ({{90}^{o}}-\theta )}=\tan \delta \cos ec\theta \]
