The catalyst used in the manufacture of ammonia is

    A)  \[{{V}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}\]

    B) \[Pt\]

    C)  \[Fe\]

    D) \[Ni{{(CO)}_{4}}\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

When nitrogen and hydrogen in the ratio of 1:3 are mixed at high temperature (750 K) and \[200~-\text{ }250\text{ atm}\]pressure and in the presence of Fe and Mo, ammonia is obtained. This process is called Haber?s process. \[{{N}_{2}}(g)+3{{H}_{2}}(g)2N{{H}_{3}}(g)\] In this process finely divided iron (Fe) acts as catalyst and molybdenum (Mo) acts as catalyst promoter.
